Bishop leads Saskatchewan to fourth quarter rally over Winnipeg

Football Betting Lines

09/07/2008 - Winnipeg, MB (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Michael Bishop helped rally Saskatchewan from down 17 points in the fourth quarter and Luca Congi kicked the game-tying and game-winning field goals with under two minutes to play, as the Roughriders shocked the Winnipeg Blue Bombers with a 34-31 comeback win at Cannad Inns Stadium.

Bishop tossed fourth quarter touchdowns of 45 and 34 yards after Winnipeg (2-8) built a 31-14 lead and connected with Gerran Walker on a 45-yard completion with 20 ticks remaining to help set up Congi's 29-yard, game- winning field goal as time expired.

The Riders (8-2), who acquired Bishop from Toronto just over a week ago, reversed a two-game losing streak by knocking off the Bombers for the second consecutive game behind their new quarterback after a 19-6 home win over Winnipeg in Week 10.

Bishop finished 24-of-30 for 370 yards and three touchdowns while Weston Dressler was on the receiving end of two of those touchdowns and finished with 119 yards receiving on six grabs. Vincent Marshall caught the other fourth quarter touchdown from Bishop, one of five grabs for 98 yards. Wes Cates rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown.

Kevin Glenn hit on 21-of-29 passes for 256 yards and two scores while Fred Reid and Joe Smith both rushed for a touchdown on 11 carries each. Terrence Edwards had a game-high seven receptions for 103 yards and two touchdowns but the Bombers' defense ultimately let down the offense, which provided an impressive display against a Saskatchewan defensive unit, which came into the game ranked first in fewest yards allowed, touchdown passes allowed and points allowed.

Cates got things going for Saskatchewan with a three-yard TD run on the game's opening drive but Reid found the end zone from one-yard out on the ensuing possession and Glenn hit Edwards for an 13-yard TD strike to end the quarter up 14-7.

After an Alexis Serna field goal made it 17-7, the Roughriders cut the lead to 17-14 when Bishop hooked up with Dressler on a 31-yard touchdown with under a minute to play in the half.

The second half began the tale of two quarters as Winnipeg built their lead to 31-14 behind a 41-yard touchdown toss from Glenn to Edwards and a one-yard TD run from Smith in the third quarter.

That's when the former Kansas State star, Bishop, took over, leading fourth quarter scoring drives of 90, 60, 56 and 60 yards to help Saskatchewan claim victory. Congi put the finishing touches on the final two drives with field goals from 17 and 29 yards.

Game Notes
